Artist to look for May 19th 2010 DBK Showcase

Who is RewMec?

An Emcee, performer, songwriter, crooner, a jack of many trades to say the least. Trades that over the years he has come to master, with such a particular level of detail and grace, that it appears natural. From his commanding presence and somewhat "territorial" performance style, to his "organic sound", there is a raw talent that shines through louder than the actual voice on the smooth toned rapper himself. Newark, New Jersey artist Andrew "RewMec" Burrowes, 23, has slowly made strides through the local underground scene with his uncanny "form-fitting" flow that always appears to be tailor made to the well structured production he tends to use. With an edge of one straight out of poverty, coupled with a vocabulary fit for Princeton, RewMec expresses himself with a style that is best described as "articulately gritty". With heavy influence from the Neo-Soul movement and mid 90's Hip-Hop culture, this east coast rhymer provides listeners with a rooted sound that never branches away from being relevant in delivery and in content; a quality trait which has garnered him much respect among his fellow Tri-State peers. Currently sponsored by Division East, located in Montclair NJ, RewMec has recently released a short preview of the many things to come in 2010. "She Made Me Do It LP -Sampler-", which is currently available for download on his myspace, has grabbed the attention of rising underground emcees such as GDP (Say-10 Records/ Division East) and Daniel Joseph (High Water Music). Backed by a music career that only dates back circa 2006, we can only imagine how the future will season an artist so ahead of his time! -

JAY-Z'S TURNS DOWN FAT BOY FOR M&Ms

This poor kid tried to sell Jay-Z some M&Ms and Jay didn't want any. Now some people are all pissy at Jay, but I have a theory on this. Jay-Z was caught totally off guard that a human of regular proportions got that close to him that he was thrown totally off guard. His first response to the question was, "no," because that's what people do. I always say no to those dudes when I get asked, because that my first instinct. So, that's my theory on Jay-Z right now. LOL!

Fashion Mogul Week 4 (Ketsy Pierre)

DBK had to oppurtunity to meet this young lady a couple months back. Her style and energy is second to none. We expext big things from this individual "sky is the limit." Leave you with one of her quotes,"Your cloths don’t make up for the lack of personality you have buddy!" Cant get no more real than that....Nevertheless check our fashion mogul, "Ketsy Pierre"

Name: Ketsy A. Pierre

Age: 22yrs

Locality: Roselle, NJ

Trade by Day: Student

Hobbies & Talents: I would say I do pretty much everything execept play music hahahah.. But I’m never afraid to try something new

Favorite Brands: The thift store is my spot & of course my cousin Tamar Joseph’s closet.. Which is pretty much the thift store in its self lol; definitely not a label whore.. So if I like it I’ll wear it

Fashion Trends (Favorite and Least Favorite) My least favorite tread is of course the leggings.. People just don’t know how to wear it properly.. I don’t know if you can call shoulder pads a fashion trend because it’s been around for years, but I like it on a couple of pieces..

What comes to mind when you hear Dirty Backpack Krew:
Well when I first heard it I asked myself: “What the hell?”, but then I checked out your blog & info and of course I was digging it.

What is your plan for 2010 and beyond: To put God first in whatever I do; and to graduate with my bachelor and Master degree in Social Work..

Any last words to the bloggers:

Stay humble with anything you do.. Please put god first that’s the only way you can be successful honestly… ooh yeah some words for the people that are so shallow & that only cares about how fly they are.. Your cloths don’t make up for the lack of personality you have buddy.. I can definitely smell that from a mile away.. and to just be yourself

Fashion Mogul Week 3 2/22/2010 "Fatima Scott

Name: Fatima Scott
Age: 20
Locality: Jersey City, NJ
Current Location: State College, PA.
Trade by Day: Junior, at Pennsylvania State University, Weekly Fashion blogger for Emcblue.com & writer for Penn State’s FLY magazine
Hobbies & Talents: I’m not a singer or a dancer, but I possess a great sense of style. Fashion is my outlet and writing is my escape. That’s why I chose to combine the two. Creativity isn’t a talent; it’s more like second nature.
Favorite Brands: I try to stay away from anything that SCREAMS label. I’ve learned to become my own brand. Something so rare and so unique can’t be found at a Forever 21 or H&M. You’ll catch me in a label that’s priceless, because it says me.
Fashion Trends: Mixing something old, with something new. I find it amazing; what the past can do for the present. From bulky accessories to floral prints and boyfriend blazers that still carry shoulder pads; nothing is like an outfit that screams BOLD! Lately, anything that goes above the knee fascinates me.
Least favorite trend: A woman in sneakers can’t be taken seriously. I’ll admit; my Asics boxing shoes still have a place in my heart and my closet. But, there’s a time and place for that attire. Who say’s it need’s a heel? A flat or a wedge can do. Remember, it HURTS to look good.
What comes to mind when you hear Dirty Backpack Krew: I think urban. I think original. I think unique. I see individuals that share a common goal but possess different styles.
What is your plan for 2010 and beyond: New Year, same goals! But, there’s always room for expansion. Graduation is just a few steps away, and a career is right around the corner.
Any last words to the bloggers: This won’t be the last time you’ll see my face =)

Fatima! Fashion Mogul of the week 2-8-2010

Got in touch with this young lady thru Ketsy (Our next fashion week mogul). A Fashion student and intern at world famous Vibe Magazine. A profession at her own style she can be quoted as to saying, "I don’t care for labels, that’s wack to me! I prefer the challenge of creating something beautiful out of something I bought for 3$at a charity shop. " Without anymore comment I now present Fatima keep doing your thing! Also check out her blog sewingstardom.blogspot.com.....

Name: Fatima

Age: 19

Locality: Hometown is Paterson, NJ. Currently living in NY

Trade by Day: Fashion Student, blogger and intern at Vibe Magazine

Hobbies & Talents: I love to write, I use my blog (sewingstardom.blogpot.com) as a creative outlet. I enjoy reading all types of things, from crime stories of the 40’s to WWD. I enjoy traveling to different places and taking pictures of things I find interesting; but I have never claimed to be a photographer.

Favorite Brands: I prefer thrift stores. I hate seeing other people in the same thing that I’m wearing. I don’t care for labels, that’s wack to me! In highchool I didn’t like them because I couldn’t afford them, I still can’t afford most of them but even if I could I prefer the challenge of creating something beautiful out of something I bought for 3$ at a charity shop.

Fashion Trends (Favorite and Least Favorite) My favorite trend at the moment is definitely thigh high socks and stockings, that may be one trend I have worn out. My least favorite is…hmmmm sequins and shoulder pads, it’s been like a overload lately.

What comes to mind when you hear Dirty Backpack Krew: Creativity, style and culture. The name alone is pretty insane.

What is your plan for 2010 and beyond: Network like crazy, land a job at a magazine, gain as much experience as possible and enjoy life.

Any last words to the bloggers: It may sound corny, but live your life to the fullest. You never know when you time is up so give it your all and don’t be afraid to follow your heart!

GEO- SNEAKER HEAD TILL HE DIES!

1.Tell us about yourself and what you currently do? (Age, educational background, hobbies)
Geo 28, LIU grad BA computer science, C.E.O. So-Nesessary Ent, sneaker head till I die!!!

2.What makes you different from everyone in your field?
There are ton’s of so called promoters out here in the club market. What makes my company different is the hands on attitude we have and our persistent attention to detail. At any of our events there isn’t anything that has not been checked over and over by me and or my business partner. If I do an event for you, you’re not supposed to be worried about your friends, family, or clients getting in to the venue or liquor and entertainment. That’s what we get paid for. So that’s our job and we do it well. That’s what makes up So-Nesessary Ent.

3.What made you start colleting kicks?
What made me start collecting kicks hmmmm lol. Honestly, my upbringing made me start collecting kicks. I grew up broke, hand me downs and all. I’m not ashamed to say it because it taught me a lot. When my brother would be finished with his kicks, I would clean them up and wash the laces by hand. I would use my toothbrush on the sole and I was good to go. I would keep them under the bed and rock whatever kicks I had until they were looking ridiculous, then I would go under the bed and pull out the ones I cleaned up like they were brand new. You couldn’t tell me shit lol. I made it my business to get my first job at sneaker store and my check would never make it home. When I got older and started working at this brokerage firm making a decent couple dollars. Awww man I was buying 2 pairs of everything lol.

4.Who is the biggest influence in your life?
The biggest influence in my life I would have to my mother. She’s my best friend. My heart beats to her every breath. She taught me how to work hard for the things you need and work harder for the things you desire.

5.What does Dirty Backpack Krew mean to you?
Man that’s a good question. Dirty Backpack Krew means a lot to me because I see it grow from an idea to what it is now. "Young Moguls"... that’s what think of when I think about DBK. Fresh, fly, and ground breaking. Their attention to detail is off the wall and there concepts are presidential (top notch). 2K10 I see big things for DBK

6.What are the hottest kicks you own and why?
I can’t answer that question truthfully because I think all my kicks are off the wall but I will tell you my fav’s in my collection
Air Jordan VII (7) Olympics
Air Jordan VII (7) white, flint grey, French blue
Air Jordan V(5) Grape

7.Any Last Words or comments for the readers…………………This was fun thanks for the opportunity. Everywhere I go I tell the indie stores about DBK. Everybody out there support the movement and the birth of greatness which is Dirty Backpack Krew. All my fellow sneaker heads, no more fake kicks in 2K10. Shout outs to all the shops out there keepin us fresh Sneaker Bistro, East West, Brooklyn Circus, Atoms, Dave’s Quality Meats, Packers, Marquee Sole. Chis and the rest of the DBK one love.

Quote of the Night

"Quiet storm vital form pen pushed it right across
Mind is a vital force, high level right across
Shoulders the lions raw voice is the siren
I swing round ring out and bring down the tyrant
Shocked a small act could knock a giant lopsided
The world is so dangerous there's no need for fightin
Suttins tryna hide like the struggle wont find em
And the sun bust through the clouds to clearly remind him"

-Mos Def

Artists of the moment: St Louis Joe

"Had the time to catch up with the underground artists St Louis Joe. We told you guys in the past hip hop creativity is not dead. There still artist out there that know the true meaning of hip hop as an art. Well here you go enough of us check out St Louis Joe answer some questions and drop off there material...Support!"

1.Tell us about yourself and what you currently do? (Age, educational background, hobbies)
Elete: We have had the name St Joe Louis for about 3 years. Before that we went as Prizm, but had to change it due to licensing issues. The 3 members are Michael Cardigan, Elete Wright, from Newark New Jersey and Tom Chase from Waco Texas. We all have day jobs and smoke hooka. 2 out of 3 have locks. 3 out of 3 dress fly. 1 out of 3 loves sushi. 2 out of 3 smoke cigars. 2 out of 3 like anime. 3 out 3 like comics. 1 out of 3 skateboard. 1 out of 3 made it a hobby in high school to successfully out-debate priests and bishops on religion. 1 out of 3 is training to be a tattoo artist. Ya moms probably wants to take one of us on a date.
2. What makes you different from everyone in your field?
Elete: The persistence of quality and attention to detail. We just express things in a way that makes sense to us. All feeling no filler. We don’t try to fit a particular mold or subscribe to a formal school of thought. And we’re usually dressed better lol.
3.What made you start? (skateboarding, bike riding, DJing, rapping etc.)
Michael Cardigan: There was a void between what was there and what I wanted to see so I am filling that gap.
Elete: I was fascinated with manipulating words and the ideas therein. That hobby became a passion. The same with production.
Tom Chase: well I’m from Texas so I took up skateboarding before I started taking rap seriously I’m not good at it like on a professional level but I was just inspired by the rebel-''esc'' attitude of the 1980's skateboarders I didn’t really get into rap until I moved up north to Brooklyn.
4. Who is the biggest influence in your life?
Tom Chase: My biggest influence is my mother. That’s pretty much it.
Elete Wright: My father. I act just like him. Oh, Shonuff from “The Last Dragon” , Lando Calrissian and Mace Windu from “Star Wars”. They are the flyest black fictional characters from my childhood.
5. What big names have you have worked with in the past?
Elete Wright : Joe Budden, Nucci Reyo, Vast Aire, Sky Zoo, and Malay to name a few.
6. What does Dirty Backpack Krew mean to you?
Michael Cardigan: That you are working at something hence the dirt and that work keeps you out long hours hence the backpack.
Elete Wright: It actually reminds me of ciphering all day and night all over the tri-state, building a name for myself my crew and my state. I guess you could say I was a “backpack rapper”. These days I spend more time in the studio, and I don’t carry around my backpack anymore. But I still have it. Its dirty as hell, the stains are mementos of my adventures.
Tom Chase: ummmmmmmmm you're not afraid to do what you have to do even if something that you want to do and you're always on the move in short a hard worker. That's what I get from the term "Dirty Backpack Krew"

7. Any Last Words or comments for the readers…………………
Michael Cardigan: Look out for the upcoming project 30,000ft High & Rising.
Tom Chase: S.J.L., D.B.K, E.A., TOKYO SKYLINE 30,000 ft HIGH &RISING GET OR GET DELT WIT!
Elete Wright: NJ all day.
